Hermès’s Newest Collection Includes a Multicolored Haut à Courroies and Some Crossbody Fanny Packs

Hermès’s Men’s Spring 2019 collection made a persuasive case for treating belt bags and crossbody fanny packs as more than passing novelty. There’s maybe no other leather house as closely associated with old-school elegance and sophistication as Hermès, and at the brand’s Men’s Spring 2019 show in Paris, crossbody fanny packs in multihue blues graced the runway more than once, among other things. I thought they might be the brand’s first, but no—Hermès is no rookie in the belt bag game.

Worn slung across the chest, the silhouettes looked deliberate rather than ironic, grounded by the house’s familiar emphasis on fine leather, precision finishing, and a restrained sense of ease. In other travel-size bags, the blues varied all the way to acid green, which is a look that would be just as cool if it made it over to the women’s side of things. Like Louis Vuitton and Dior, though, Hermès has different creative directors for its women’s and men’s collections, so the likelihood of that is limited.

The collection’s standout was a multicolored Haut à Courroies rendered in rich, varied shades of blue. Check them all out below.

Rather than relying on a single saturated tone, the bag leaned into tonal depth and surface variation, giving the classic shape a fresher, more directional feel.

The gradient colored leather is stunning!! Absolutely in love with the ombre effect, so well done that it’s not tacky or cheap looking. Nearby, smaller travel-ready pieces echoed the same color story, with blue leather that shifted into brighter green territory for a sharper visual contrast.

The tie-dye leather looks like it has been rubbed and discolored! Gross, I am not a fan at all

I’m not a huge Hermes fan but, I adore the multicolored leather!

These are bags designed for movement, but they still read as distinctly Hermès: practical in shape, elevated in materials, and polished enough to feel at home in a luxury wardrobe.

Fanny packs look much better on men. I’m almost fine with that, LOL

Love the collection. Beautiful.

For readers considering similar styles, the strongest takeaway is that proportions and finish matter as much as the trend itself. Hands-(and shoulder-)free AND not getting looks like I’ve escaped from some mental institution at the same time!

Not a fan of gradation IRL, but I have to say these are done much better than any other I’ve seen and that include Dior.

A belt bag can feel refined when the leather is exceptional and the silhouette stays clean.
