How to Order a Custom Louis Vuitton Trunk

During a recent visit to the flagship Louis Vuitton store on Fifth Avenue in New York, we asked about purchasing a trunk for a living room. Beyond the visuals, the book also sheds light on the careful construction process that gives Louis Vuitton trunks their enduring appeal. Every trunk is made to order, customized to the client’s specifications.

For anyone curious about commissioning a trunk, the process is highly personalized. First, the customer submits their wishes to a local Louis Vuitton store. Those requests are sent to the corporate headquarters in Paris for approval. That approach reflects the house’s emphasis on craftsmanship and customization. If the client agrees, a 25% deposit is required before production begins. A client begins by sharing their requests with a Louis Vuitton store, which then forwards the information for approval.

The Paris Exhibition: Voyage En Capitale

To coincide with the book launch, the Carnavalet museum is hosting an exhibition titled Voyage En Capitale: Louis Vuitton and Paris, running from now until February 27, 2011. From there, sketches are prepared and a pricing proposal is created. The book is available for $170 through Louis Vuitton.
