When Nicolas Ghesquière introduced the Petite Malle as his first major handbag for Louis Vuitton, it was a bold move. A hard-sided clutch leans heavily on the house’s trunk-making heritage, but in an era of relaxed dressing, a strictly handheld bag can feel limiting. Many assumed the Petite Malle would be a fleeting emblem of Ghesquière’s early tenure, eventually replaced by designs with broader appeal.

The Petite Malle ultimately established itself as an enduring icon, and Louis Vuitton later revisited the idea in a more versatile form with the Trunk Clutch. Introduced for Pre-Fall 2018, this version softens the original concept just enough to make it easier to carry while preserving the same signature trunk-inspired attitude.

Despite its name, the Trunk Clutch functions as a small crossbody bag. It includes an adjustable strap that combines chain links with leather, allowing you to wear it over the shoulder or across the body. The top features a zip closure plus a front flap secured by the same gold-toned lock found on the Petite Malle.
