NYFW Handbag: Day 1

Yesterday New York Fashion Week began and I, like majority of attendees, scrambled around the house and pillaged through my closet trying to find something appropriate to wear. New York Fashion Week began yesterday, and like many attendees, I found myself in the familiar pre-show scramble of rifling through my closet and trying to assemble something that felt polished enough for the occasion. The answer was a resounding ‘“YES, YES WE DO”.

When not dealing with fashion week and the corresponding sartorial pressure, I am not nearly as concerned with my clothing choices, after all, I dress myself around my handbag. In the middle of that chaos, Vlad asked a question I imagine many men have wondered at some point: do women really think we need more clothes in our closets?

In effort to streamline my Fashion Week choices – I decided to apply my day-t0-day ‘dress around the bag’ theory. I opted to start off with a sure-thing, my black Hermes Birkin and headed off to the shows: Nicholas K, BCBG, and Chadwick Bell. The answer, of course, was an emphatic yes.

The moral of day 1: Curating the outfit around the handbag never fails.

You look very stylish Megs, that is the perfect outfit for Fashion Week, will you show your face in the next pictures, I’m sure you’re very pretty, but don’t feel forced. Outside of Fashion Week—and the pressure that comes with dressing for it—I am far less exacting about my clothing choices.

I meant to say don’t feel forced to show your face if you don’t want to.

I may show my face – if it doesn’t look awful! More often than not, I build everything around the handbag.

To keep my Fashion Week dressing simple, I leaned on my usual approach: start with the bag and let the rest follow. It’s funny but sometimes I know what bag I want to use but work out the outfit that morning. It’s like I carry the bag, but the bag carries the look !

I chose my black Hermès Birkin, a reliable anchor for just about any look, and headed out to Nicholas K, BCBG, and Chadwick Bell.
