Lately, for reasons I can’t explain, I’ve really wanted to bedazzle a phone case. Not just any case, either, but the kind of over-the-top, crystal-covered object that feels equal parts nostalgic and indulgent. I don’t know why this urge struck me a couple weeks ago—I’m not even a sparkle enthusiast! —but I’ve been so unable to shake it that I’ve looked into buying bulk crystals and the necessary tools to make my own because it seems like it would be a very soothing, detail-oriented type of activity. I’m not even usually drawn to that much shine, but the appeal is hard to dismiss.

Tom Ford has never been a subtle designer; he’s made a legendary career out of embracing straightforward glamor and sensuality, so he’s long been a fan of glittering finishes and animal prints. Tom Ford’s Fall 2018 runway bags in New York tapped into that same energy, only with far more polish and confidence. Oh, and you’ll also notice something of a, uh, women’s empowerment message on some of the bags. As always, with Tom Ford, there is no subtext, only text. His work has long leaned into glamour, polish, and sensuality, and this collection continued that language through animal print, high-shine finishes, and crystal-heavy hardware.
