On September 10th, Yves Saint Laurent officially launched their much anticipated YSL Roady. The YSL Roady has been garnering attention from editors, celebrities, and fashionistas alike. Yves Saint Laurent’s Roady arrived as a notable addition to the house’s handbag lineup, drawing attention for its relaxed silhouette and polished finish.

The list of celebrities already carrying the bag include; Mary Kate Olsen, Rachel Bilson, Selma Blair, Freida Pinto, Tilda Swinton, Leighton Meester, Kate Beckinsale, Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue. Some of the fabrications have already been sold out, my bet would be the chain Roady was the first to sell out (seen on MK and Katy Perry).

Designed by Creative Director Stefano Pilati, the Roady first debuted in the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 ad campaign with Christy Turlington. Positioned after the success of earlier YSL favorites, the bag reflects a continued interest in pieces that feel effortless but still unmistakably luxe. The handle, however, is simple and beautiful with silver hardware and ring attachments to the structured handle.

The Roady options include black patent leather, blue leather, red textured leather, black (silver) stingray embossed leather, black leather, and black leather with metal chain insert detail. My favorite is the black leather with metal chain detail, it combines supple smooth leather with an added hidden dimension. At first glance, the Roady is a simple hobo shape, but its appeal lies in the proportions and detailing.

I’m not into simple hobos and especially not at $1500. I’m underwhelmed YSL. Very underwhelmed.

The structured handle, ring attachments, and metallic hardware give the design a more refined presence than its understated profile might suggest.

Wow, I absolutely love this bag. I’ve never owned a YSL, but this might be my first!

I didn’t think much about this simple looking hobo style bag since I tend to hold all my bags either on my forearm or in my hand. It is the kind of bag that can look quiet on paper and far more compelling once worn. The bag is as Rachel Zoe would say “BAH-NAN-NAS”, I tried it on and fell head over heels…. I got the black leather and the stingray. This bag is to be tried on, yes it’s simple looking but this bag has that “it” factor!

I adore my Muses (a large and an OS)…but this may be my next venture, I love the short strap and the slouchy body, fabulous YSL.

The Roady was offered in a range of materials and finishes, including patent and textured leathers, stingray-embossed options, and versions with chain detailing.

I LOVE how simple and chic this bag is!

Ok, got home and there was a package from Saks…ripped into it. THEY SENT THE WRONG BAG!!! Among the most interesting interpretations is the leather style with a chain insert, which adds dimension without disrupting the bag’s clean lines. It’s out of stock. It will be a while before I shop at Saks again. And, to top it off, the customer service rep was rude.

The result is a handbag that balances ease with a sharper, more fashion-forward edge. I had pre-ordered a Bottega Venetta handbag and they sent me the bag in the wrong color and they were unable to accomadate my original request because they were sold out!! On a separate occasion Saks sent me a St. John cardigan instead of the Tory Burch button down shirt that I had ordered. For shoppers considering the Roady, the main question is whether they want a bag that leans minimalist or one with a bit more texture and contrast.

I do not care for it. I have 2 YSL bags that I love, but I do not care for this slouchy hobo style. It would be hard to find my things in there, it is too simple looking, and I don’t like the round strap.
